NHS Employment Support
published on 31 March 2017

The NHS in Islington are now providing voluntary employment support to people with a long term health condition or disability in GP surgeries across Islington. This is being provided by C&I NHS Trust as part of a research project to test how effective this type of health focused employment support from the NHS is for those who want to work.

An important message for residents is that this is an NHS service and it does not share information with the Job Centre or the Department for Work and Pensions – for anyone returning to employment, specialist benefits advice and support will be provided. The IPS employment specialists will work with clients through the whole journey back to work including applying for jobs and actively engaging employers on the clients behalf. They have very small caseloads and work closely with each client, and their clinical team where appropriate, to ensure any challenges relating to a specific health condition are taken into account.

There are over 13,000 people in Islington with a long-term health condition or disability who are unemployed and many of whom could benefit from this support.
